Steve Jones BSc PhD CPA EPA RTMA MRSC - Principal Patent AttorneyDr Steve Jones has a 1st class BSc degree in Chemistry and a PhD in physical chemistry from the University of Leeds. He entered the patent profession in 1986, and qualified in 1989. Steve trained at Fisons Pharmaceuticals, before entering private practice with a firm in Leicester in 1990, where he became a partner in 1993. He left that firm in 2000 to establish AdamsonJones. Steve's practice is diverse, but with an emphasis on the biomedical field. He has wide experience of pharmaceutical matters, especially in the fields of formulations and drug delivery devices, with particular experience of respiratory drug delivery and associated technologies, and also tissue sealants and adhesives. Steve has also worked extensively in the field of biosensors. As well as patent filing and prosecution, he has handled many contentious matters, in particular oppositions at the European Patent Office, representing both opponents and patentees, and an important component of his present practice is the provision of advice on the scope and validity of the IP rights of his clients' competitors. Steve is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys, a member of the European Patents Institute, the Royal Society of Chemistry and the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property, and a Foreign Member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association. |

Elizabeth Smith BSc CPA EPA - Patent Attorney - Chemical ScienceLiz Smith is a patent attorney with approximately 20 years experience. The majority of that experience was gained in the Patent Department of one of the UK's best known companies, The Boots Company PLC, where Liz was latterly Head of Patents. Liz joined AdamsonJones in 2004. Her practice mainly involves the filing and prosecution of patent applications and advising clients in relation to competitor patents. Particular fields in which Liz has extensive experience and expertise are pharmaceutical chemistry and formulations, cosmetics and personal care products. Liz has considerable experience of handling patent filing programmes across the world, commonly in 50 territories, and of providing strategic IP advice to senior management. Liz is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys and a member of the European Patents Institute. |

Simon Cooper MPhys CPA EPA - Patent Attorney - Physical ScienceSimon Cooper holds a 1st class Masters of Physics degree from the University of Manchester, where his final year research projects involved study of holographic growth in photorefractive polymer composites and the development of improvements to a demonstration electron accelerator. He joined the firm in September 2001, immediately after graduating. Simon qualified as a European Patent Attorney in 2005 and as a UK Registered Patent Attorney in 2007. Simon's practice involves principally the drafting and prosecution of patent applications in the mechanical and electrical fields. He has extensive experience of components for use in anaesthesia and breathing circuits, the technology of electrical power distribution, photographic accessories, the construction industry and materials testing. Simon is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys, and a member of the European Patents Institute and of the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property. |

Eilidh Benest MChem CPA EPA - Patent Attorney - Chemical ScienceEilidh Benest is a graduate in Medicinal Chemistry, with a 1st class Masters of Chemistry degree from the University of Leeds. Eilidh was awarded the Crabtree Prize for the best performance in the final year of the degree scheme, during which she completed a research project entitled "Investigations towards the asymmetric synthesis of ß-phenylethylamines". Prior to joining AdamsonJones, Eilidh was engaged in coordinating external research projects for a major PLC, which involved considerable exposure to intellectual property issues. Eilidh qualified as both UK and European Patent Attorney in 2008, and her practice involves mainly patent drafting and prosecution across a wide range of subject matter, predominantly in the chemical, pharmaceutical and biomedical fields. Eilidh is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys, and a member of the European Patents Institute. |
Tim Fray BSc MSc DPhil - Technical SpecialistTim Fray holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry with Molecular Biology from the University of Leeds, which he gained in 1994. Subsequently Tim gained a Masters degree by research from the same university, working on the effect of growth factors on the migration and proliferation of human dermal fibroblasts. Tim then moved to the University of York, where he completed a Doctorate as part of a CASE studentship in partnership with Smith and Nephew Group Research. During this time Tim continued his interests in wound healing and developed a method to measure the contractile forces produced by single myofibroblasts during wound healing and tissue repair in humans. After completing his DPhil, Tim joined Mars Incorporated as a clinical research scientist, based at their research facility at the Waltham Centre for Pet Nutrition in Leicestershire. Whilst at Mars, Tim was also the Site IP manager, responsible for the coordination of the global Mars IP strategy with the local unit operations. Tim joined AdamsonJones in June 2008 as a Technical Specialist, and assists with all aspects of patent drafting and prosecution. He is training for qualification as a patent attorney. |

David Gwilliam BSc MSc - Patent AssistantDavid Gwilliam obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry & Genetics from The University of Nottingham, followed by a Master of Science degree in Cancer Immunotherapy from the same university. David’s research involved studies into the effect of cytokine signalling on naïve CD4+ T-cell activation. Following completion of his studies in 2007, David worked in industry, for MedImmune UK Ltd, before joining AdamsonJones in July 2008. David assists with all aspects of patent drafting and prosecution, and is training for qualification as a patent attorney. |
