Chris joined Adamson Jones in 2014, having previously trained and worked at a London-based firm where he qualified as a European patent attorney in 2009 and a Chartered UK Patent Attorney in 2010.
He holds an MEng in Automotive Engineering from the University of Leeds and an MSc in Management of Intellectual Property from Queen Mary University of London.
His experience includes patent and registered design filing and prosecution work for a range of mechanical subject matter for a variety of clients, ranging from individuals to large multinationals.
Chris has experience of a wide range of technology including oil and gas exploration, power tools, medical and healthcare devices, and food packaging. Although largely focused on drafting and prosecution, Chris also has experience of freedom-to-operate assessments (FTO), due diligence exercises and European Patent Office (EPO) oppositions.
How do you help clients?
I predominantly help clients protect their technical innovations by drafting, filing and prosecuting patent applications before the UK and European patent offices, and by coordinating prosecution of corresponding applications at other national offices.
I can provide advice on the patentability of new inventions, and undertake freedom-to-operate assessments for existing or proposed products and services to help reduce the risk of infringing others’ patents.
I can also advise on registered design protection to help add commercial value to a product and prevent competitors from selling products of a similar design/appearance. This includes filing options and strategy, and the preparation or amendment of drawings and other representations for filing.

- Advising a multinational medical device company on design filing strategy to protect key products in various territories.
