A team of nine intrepid ramblers from Adamson Jones, has completed the first of three physical challenges in a bid to raise money for The Prince’s Trust and Narcolepsy UK.
Narcolepsy UK is a charity with which Adamson Jones has a personal involvement, as the daughter of one of their team suffers from the illness. Narcolepsy affects around 30,000 people in the UK, and can cause the sufferer to fall asleep in unusual places or circumstances. The team hopes their fundraising efforts will help promote awareness of narcolepsy as well as provide funding towards the local self-help groups and research into the cause and treatment of the condition.
The company’s second nominated charity, The Prince’s Trust, is celebrating 30 years of its Enterprise Programme, supporting young people to explore self-employment. Around 1 in 5 young people in the UK are not in work, education or training and youth unemployment costs the UK economy £10 million a day in lost productivity. Adamson Jones is raising money to help The Trust, which addresses this by giving practical and financial support to the young people who need it most, helping them to develop key skills, confidence and motivation to move into work.
The team challenges began in earnest with a 25 mile walk over the White Peak, starting and ending in the popular tourist spot of Bakewell, passing through the villages of Rowsley, Birchover and Monyash and taking in the stunning views from the Limestone Way and Monsal Trail.
Steve Jones, Chairman at Adamson Jones said “The team did extremely well, completing the 25 miles within 9 hours, which was a fantastic effort considering that many had never even walked half the distance before. It was certainly a day to remember and we are absolutely thrilled to have raised £2,000 already for our nominated charities.”
Up next for the AJ fundraising team is the Derby triathlon, which encompasses a 400m swim, 18k cycle and 5k run. The company has also entered a team in the 2013 Robin Hood Nottingham Sweatshop relay challenge, which is a firm favourite for the company, whose team came second in the corresponding event last year, so who knows, they may just make it to the top spot this year!
