International Patents: Saudi Arabia joins the PCT

The Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) greatly facilitates the filing of patent applications around the world, and is very widely used. The value of the system continues to increase, as more and more countries join the system.
In a welcome development, Saudi Arabia is to join the PCT with effect from 3 August 2013, and hence may be covered by any PCT application filed after this date.
Stay of proceedings at UK courts - Coloplast A/S v Salts Healthcare Limited

Although a stay of national proceedings is the ‘default’ position in the UK, the stay was refused in this instance because of the combination of an absolute right of appeal, a minimum of two years to appeal and the potential of the ping pong effect before the EPO.
