UK Patent Fees to Rise
10th February 2010
Substantial increases have been announced in the official fees payable on patent applications at the UK Intellectual Property Office.
Noteworthy increases include a change in the search fee from £100 to £150, and in the examination fee from £70 to £100. We are pleased to note, however, that the discounts for electronic filing (which we habitually use) have been increased from £10 to £20, which will partially offset the increases.
Other fees which will be substantially increased are the annual renewal fees payable on granted UK patents (and European patents effective in the UK), particularly in the later years of patent lifetime. The 15th year renewal fee, for instance, will increase from £250 to £350, and the 20th year fee from £400 to £600.

Stay of proceedings at UK courts - Coloplast A/S v Salts Healthcare Limited
24th February 2020
Although a stay of national proceedings is the ‘default’ position in the UK, the stay was refused in this instance because of the combination of an absolute right of appeal, a minimum of two years to appeal and the potential of the ping pong effect before the EPO.
